Liberman, Alexander. The Artist in His Studio. First Edition. 1960. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows fraying, small tears, and mild discoloration.
This book contains hundreds of color and b & w images as well as intimate interviews with artists about their working spaces. Longtime Condé Nast editorial director Alexander Liberman, an artist himself, had personal relationships with many of those featured, which made him uniquely qualified to produce it. Artist studios profiled include those of Balthus, Braque, Cézanne, Dali, Delaunay, Dufy, Kandinsky, Léger, Matisse, Miró, Monet, Picasso (who was a close friend), and Renoir.
“All art is solitary and the studio a torture area.”
