[Signed to Betsy Bloomingdale] Loring, John. A Tiffany Christmas. First Edition. 1996. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Book is warmly inscribed on the title page, “For Betsy, with fondness and admiration, John Loring, 10 Dec 1996.”
Betsy Bloomingdale was based in Los Angeles, but the world was her home. She was an international socialite who traveled the circuit, be it the annual Costume Institute gala in New York or a house party thrown by “Johnny Spencer” (a.k.a. the 8th Earl Spencer, father of Diana, Princess of Wales). It is fitting this gorgeous coffee table book was in her library. It also traveled the world, documenting the holiday traditions and decorations at Longleat House, Woburn Abbey, Chatsworth, and Cliveden. Mixed in are examples of celebrations in various motifs, including Deco, Currier & Ives, and Chinoiserie.
“Fairy tales … are an undeniable part of Christmas celebrations, when everything from gingerbread to nutcrackers assumes human qualities and joins in the celebrations.”
