[Signed] Stein, Gertrude. Lectures in America. First Edition. 1935. Book and dust jacket are both in very good minus condition—there is a full page of notes written in pencil on the flyleaf, which could be erased, but they are rather intriguing. Jacket shows some paper loss. The book is signed “Gertrude Stein” in the upper left corner of the side opposite the flyleaf.
The 1932 publication of The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas catapulted Gertrude Stein beyond her friends Picasso, Hemingway, and Matisse into full public view. She took advantage of her newfound fame by embarking on a much-heralded lecture tour of the United States—a triumphant homecoming following decades abroad. This is the book version of those lectures.
