Cerio, Edwin. The Masque of Capri. First Edition. 1957. Book and dust jacket are both in good plus condition—book shows mild discoloration to a few pages; and jacket shows minor fraying and light soiling. Jacket illustrations and interior line drawings by Letizia Cerio.
This history of the romantic isle at the south end of the Bay of Naples was written by one of its most famous residents. The author, after making his fortune as an architect for the Krupps, returned to his native island to become its liberal mayor (against the rising tide of Fascism). He also founded a literary magazine, and it was in his villa that the poet Pablo Neruda stayed in 1952 (which became the basis for the 1994 Miramax film Il Postino). Contains thirty-three high quality halftone photographic plates, as well as line drawings.
