David Hicks on Decoration
Hicks, David. David Hicks on Decoration. First English Edition. 1966. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in poor condition—jacket shows large chips, tears, taped repairs, a sticker to the spine, and fraying. This is a reading copy only.
One of the great advantages of this book, David Hicks’s first, is that the text is laid out in simple bullet points, consisting entirely of categorized maxims. There is no filler. He covers theory as well as specifics. One example of the former, “Decoration is the art of achieving the maximum with the minimum.” Book contains many b & w and color images.
“Good period and modern interiors have one thing in common—style. Style produces atmosphere and if the style is right then the interior has taste.”
--David Hicks
