Architectural Digest, Celebrity Homes (Truman Capote, Lee Radziwill)
Rense, Paige (ed.). Architectural Digest, Celebrity Homes. First Edition. 1979. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows the crinkling that is common with this title and mild discoloration due to age.
This is the first (and arguably best) of the Architectural Digest compendiums published during the four-decade reign of the legendary Paige Rense. Among those featured are two celebrities very much in the public conversation right now, Truman Capote and Lee Radziwill, characters on Feud: Truman Capote vs. The Swans. Capote’s rustic home near the beach in the Hamptons is featured, as well as Lee Radziwill’s first Fifth Avenue apartment. Others profiled comprise an eclectic mix of boldfaced names, including Coco Chanel, Joan Crawford, Pauline Trigère, Sonny and Cher, James Galanos, Merle Oberon, Mary Pickford, Gore Vidal, Diana Vreeland, and Yves St. Laurent.
“’I moved around so much as a child,’ [Truman Capote] remarks. ‘I never had a sense of home. Maybe I did when I was eleven and lived in a rural town in Alabama.’ Eyeing a hat rack above his brick fireplace, the writer points to his assortment of rumpled Panamas and laughs. ‘Home is where I hang my hats.’”
