[Signed] Case, Frank. Feeding the Lions, An Algonquin Cook Book. First Edition. 1942. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in good plus condition—jacket shows a repaired tear and minor chipping. Book is inscribed, “For Anita M. Doyle, with every good wish, Frank Case.” Illustrated by O. Soglow.
This appealing and rare cookbook dispenses social history as well as recipes. It was written by the Algonquin’s longtime owner Frank Case. He relied on others for the actual recipes, but the charm is all his. Mixed in with the recipes are b & w illustrations, as well as the favorite dishes of many of the Algonquin’s celebrity cliental, both from its early Round Table days and the later celebrities who were drawn to the restaurant for its literary pedigree.
