This ‘n That, Signed by Bette Davis

There are generally two types of Hollywood memoirs. There are those that tell all, with “all” being a laundry list of famous sexual partners and performance evaluations. Then there are those that tell nothing—written for the royalty checks or perhaps the idea of a fun book launch party. The outspoken Bette Davis chose a third alternative—wit and candid restraint. From the perspective of the 1980s, she reviews her films, marriages, husbands, and the famous feud with Joan Crawford.
“In his autobiography [Errol Flynn] says I clawed his face. It’s a lie. Anything cruel I do is mental, not physical.”
--Bette Davis
