Allure by Diana Vreeland
Vreeland, Diana. Allure. First Edition. 1980. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows mild yellowing, a repaired tear, and fraying to the spine ends. It is also price-clipped.
It is not a good idea to “super-size” most items, particularly those offered by 7-11. However, NHL vastly prefers the grand, folio-size first edition of Allure to the 2002 dwarf version that was issued without a dust jacket. This 1980 printing, published while Vreeland was very much alive, is a grand as she was. In it, she curates a collection of fashion and society portraits that meet her elusive definition of “allure,” which she defines and then expands upon throughout the book. With photographs by Beaton, Horst, Hoyningen-Huene, Steichen, Avedon, and others.
