Dior, Christian. Talking About Fashion. First American Edition with Advance Review Slip laid in. 1954. Book is in very good minus condition; dust jacket is in good condition—endpapers and the occasional page are discolored, and jacket shows fraying, edge tears, and chipping to the spine ends (disguised with a facsimile underlay). Introduction and translation by Eugenia Shepherd.
Published seven years after Dior’s New Look revolutionized postwar fashion, this book’s subject matter is faithful to its title. Christian Dior reviews fellow designers such as Schiaparelli, Chanel, and Balenciaga. He also lays out what goes into producing a collection, which he acknowledges is both a creative and a business enterprise.
“A painter may risk only his canvas and his beefsteak, but I would be risking the livelihood of 1200 people if I made an unbalanced collection.”
