[Signed Presentation to Kenneth] Smith, Sally Bedell. Grace and Power, The Private World of the Kennedy White House. First Edition. 2004. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—corners are lightly bumped. Book is inscribed, “April 2004, For Kenneth, Thank you so much for your knowledge and insights—I hope I succeed in capturing Jackie’s many dimensions—with best wishes, Sally Bedell Smith.”
At six thirty in the morning on November 21, 1963, Kenneth was present at the White House, cutting and styling Jacqueline Kennedy’s hair in preparation for her journey to Texas later that day. Though he had been at the White House on many occasions, “it was one of the rare moments he saw the President and First Lady together.” Sadly it would also be the last. His story of that day is covered on page 436 of this book.
“'JFK ‘took the opinion of everyone within range,’ said Joe Alsop, [including] Jackie’s New York hairdresser Kenneth Battelle, who could report on the chitchat among ladies under the hair dryers.”
