This large and lavishly produced monograph fits no template. Michaele Vollbracht, whom the New York Times praised for his “Capote-esque wit,” presents commentary and portraits of various performers and fashion personalities, many of whom were his friends or acquaintances. Moreover, several of the subjects were among hairstylist Kenneth’s regular clients, including Jacqueline Onassis, Marilyn Monroe, and Gloria Vanderbilt.
“The last time I saw Joan Crawford she was in a brass urn. . . It seems strange now. The Campbell Brothers funeral, Myrna Loy in front of me, Anita Loos in front of Myrna Loy. Joan Crawford was now dust. We all knew, Joan hated dust.”
