[Ex Libris George Cukor] Rogers, Will (intro.). Fashions in Foods in Beverly Hills. Second Edition. 1930. Book is in very good condition. George Cukor’s famous Paul Landacre-designed bookplate is attached to the flyleaf.
George Cukor was one of Hollywood’s great hosts, and he lived just east of Beverly Hills, so it is no surprise this Beverly Hills Woman’s Club cookbook would have been in his library. It includes signature dishes from many of his friends. Those who submitted recipes include Joan Crawford, Constance Bennett, Mary Pickford, Dolores Del Rio, Douglas Fairbanks, Ramon Novarro, and Janet Gaynor. Decades before California Cuisine, this book offers some interesting and long forgotten traditional recipes. It is also one of the first cookbooks to contain the Mexican and Chinese dishes that were to become American staples.
“The French have a reputation for good cooking when it is only a reputation for Camouflage that they deserve.”
--Will Rogers
