Jordanoff, Assen. Flying and How to Do It. Revised Edition. 1940. Book and dust jacket are both in good condition—both book and jacket have moderate-to-heavy wear, but the jacket shows well in Mylar.
Assen Jordanoff was a stunt pilot and aviation enthusiast who built his first plane (a glider) at the age of sixteen. Over the years, he worked on many inventions related to commercial aviation, including a coolant system that would make fuel less flammable (for which we all thank him). However, one of his main contributions to posterity is this easy-to-understand manual on flying. It removed technical jargon and focused on imagery, some of which is humorous, to instruct on the principles of flying.
“I do not expect anyone to learn to fly without actual practice, merely from the reading of this book! But I do expect that the contents will give the reader quite a complete picture of flying and its rudiments.”
--Assen Jordanoff
