Vreeland, Alexander. Visionaire 37, Vreeland Memos. Limited Edition of 4000 Copies. Hardcover red slipcase housing softcover book. It is in very good minus condition—black embossed titles show fading.
The story behind this collection of Diana Vreeland office memoranda from her years editing Vogue is almost as fascinating as the memos themselves (which is a high bar, because they are great). They were delivered anonymously in a large box to the offices of Visionaire. It turned out that the anonymous donor was Richard Avedon who recognized their brilliance and did not wish them to fall into the abyss of history. Visionaire agreed, deciding that it was analogous to “stumbling on fashion’s Holy Grail” and published them in this book.
“April 14, 1969. Let’s promote grey. For everything. At the present moment how much grey have we got?”
