[Signed] Susann, Jacqueline. The Valley of the Dolls. Second Printing. 1966. Book and dust jacket are both in good plus condition—there is a minor seam tear, and jacket shows edgewear and minor repaired tears. It is signed “Jacqueline Susann” on the flyleaf.
No major publisher was interested in this potboiler about three single women whose quests for fame and happiness are derailed by addiction and heartbreak. They must have regretted their decisions, because this became one of the best-selling books of the 1960s. Susann was a master of publicity and popular culture, much like her uptown neighbor Andy Warhol. He predicted everyone in the future would be famous for fifteen minutes. Her codicil, as implied in this novel, is they will then spend the next fifteen in rehab.
“A man must feel he runs things, but as long as you control yourself, you control him.”
--Jacqueline Susann
