Who says that fashion is fleeting? The “lobster dress” and “shoe hat” collaborations between Schiaparelli and Dali are nearly as well known today as they were seventy-five years ago. And, as such, this book, Dali’s only work of fiction, is a marvelous association copy. The book is an old-fashioned romance filled with newfangled ideas, such as Cledalism [Google it]. Moralists were offended of course, demanding that the Marquis de Sade be left in his grave. Even without the Schiaparelli provenance, first editions in jacket are uncommon.
