This novel was first published in a small printing as Cefalu to little fanfare. It preceded Justine by ten years. The tremendous success of “The Alexandria Quartet” heralded a reissue in this mainstream edition, with an updated title. Though written in the style of detective story, it is a surrealistic novel of ideas and morality involving seven tourists who become lost in a labyrinth on the isle of Crete.
