A.L.T., Signed Presentation by André Leon Talley
[Signed Presentation] Talley, André Leon. A.L.T. 365 +. First Edition. 2005. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows moderate yellowing near the edges. Book is warmly inscribed across the front endpaper and flyleaf, “For Jade of such great style. Love, André." Laid in is a post card invitation to a cocktail party and signing for the New York City book launch.
It is no coincidence that this book matches the jumbo size and uses the identical red-and-black-on-white color scheme as his mentor Diana Vreeland’s magnum opus Allure (1980). As to content, however, they are quite different works. Vreeland’s tome included images from all of the great fashion photographers. Talley’s book is less formal. He shot all of the photographs himself on a disposable Kodak camera, as he traveled the world visiting glamorous friends and colleagues of whom he also writes about for this book.
“Of course, Mrs. Vreeland introduced me to C.Z. [Guest]. And C.Z. introduced me to Truman Capote, and the chain goes on and on.”
