[Signed] Turner, Lana. Lana, The Lady, The Legend, The Truth. First Edition. 1982. Book and dust jacket are both in very good minus condition—page edges show light soiling. Warmly inscribed in red pen on the flyleaf, “For Laurie, Happy New Year! And may you find your own Happiness in every way!!! Much love, Lana T oomph!”
According to her manager (and live-in companion) Taylor Pero, Lana Turner was guided by three precepts: “Image before truth, façade rather than fact, and pride over all.” That proclamation notwithstanding Turner claims to present only the truth in this book. However, in the tradition of Joan Crawford and Mae West, Turner yields to myth and the expectation of her fans. One does not come away with the feeling that Turner was anything less than a glamorous icon of Hollywood’s golden age, and that is just fine.
