Carroll, Lewis. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Reprint Edition. 1941. Book and dust jacket are both in good plus condition—book shows foxing to the page edges, and jacket shows discoloration, mild soiling, edge tears, and paper loss to the corners. Illustrated by A.H. Watson.
Particularly with children’s books, the illustrator is oftentimes as important as the author. That is less so of a classic like Alice in Wonderland, perched atop the pinnacle of the Literary Nonsense genre. However, there are two Alices of significance here. One requires no further explanation. The other is the illustrator of this edition. Alice Helena Watson’s magnificent use of color and spare line drawings bring the denizens of Wonderland to life as never before, both on the dust jacket cover and in eight color plates. Rare in dust jacket.
“I could tell you my adventures—beginning from this morning,” said Alice a little timidly; “but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”
