[Signed Presentation] Nash, Ogden. Marriage Lines, Notes of a Student Husband. First Edition. 1964. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows fading, particularly to spine. Illustrated by Isadore Seltzer. This copy is signed to Nash's Kiwi friends Pat and George Larkins. The inscription, in the form of a poem, reads, "My heart is aching/At the departure of Pat and George Larkins/Were I not as wingless as the warthog or eland/I'd fly to New Zealand!/Bon voyage! Ogden Nash."
A good marriage is a work in progress, and by the time of this book, Ogden Nash’s own marriage had been progressing for many years. In this book of light verse, he makes clear that the secrets to successful matrimony are humility and a sense of humor. Of course, Nash’s primary mission in his work is to amuse, but there is advice here, too. Poems are typically one-page or less, and concern love, marriage, anniversaries, and the differences between the sexes. Would make a great gift for a recently engaged couple.
“In the matter of wives, to know all is to be forgiven nothing.”
--Ogden Nash
