Webster, Doris. Help Yourself! First Edition. 1928. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—book shows discoloration to the endpapers, and jacket shows mild creasing and light fraying.
This curious and uncommon book takes the principles of “paint by the numbers” artistry and extends them to psychology. In a way, it is a precursor to computer dating, designed for men and women seeking a mate. It asks thirty-five questions to each gender—one example: “Does inefficiency in a man annoy you?” Based upon the answers, the book assigns a key number that corresponds to a chapter in the book that diagnoses the reader’s romantic deficiencies and then offers advice on how to correct them. Would make a fun party game.
“Love at first sight is deliriously delightful while it lasts, but, oh, what wreckage it leaves behind!”
