Individuals, Portraits from the Gap Collection, Signed by Kim Basinger
[Signed by Kim Basinger] Individuals, Portraits from the Gap Collection. First Edition. 2004. Hardcover with pictorial pastedown in very good condition. Foreword by Don Fisher, with contributions by Tama Janowitz, Willie Nelson, Missy Elliott, Sharon Stone, and Veronica Webb.
One of the most enduring and innovative advertising campaigns of recent times came from the Gap, the now-ubiquitous clothing store that began in 1969 as a single shop on San Francisco’s Ocean Avenue. The 1987 financial crisis had made 1988 a difficult year for the rapidly expanding company. The Gap responded with its game-changing “Individuals of Style” campaign, featuring Vanity Fair-quality portraits of people from all walks of fame wearing the Gap’s pocket tee shirts. This book is a retrospective of those ads, shot by top photographers such as Annie Leibovitz. This copy is from the library of one of the subjects of the book, Kim Basinger. She has signed it on the front cover pictorial pastedown, which is a sultry photo of her by Herb Ritts.
“All of the people represented in this book are true individuals. … They are all people who have found their inner voice (which all of us have, but only some have found and listened to.”
--Tama Janowitz
