The Heart Has Its Reasons, Signed by the Duchess of Windsor
[Signed] Windsor, Duchess of. The Heart Has Its Reasons. First American Edition. 1956. Book and dust jacket are both in very good minus condition—boards show a minor stain, and jacket shows mild fraying, creasing, and light chipping to the spine. Book is inscribed on the half title page, “To Mrs. J.H. Rickenbacker, with best wishes from Wallis, Duchess of Windsor.” Rickenbacker’s bookplate is attached to the flyleaf.
Following the success of her husband’s memoirs, the Duchess of Windsor published her own. With surprising candor and self-deprecation, she discusses her Southern upbringing and the scandal of her first divorce, which was, of course, nothing compared to that of her second. Social Historian Cleveland Amory quipped, “You can’t make the Duchess of Windsor into Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.” However, why would anyone want to?
“A woman can’t be too rich or too thin.”
--Duchess of Windsor
