Hopkins, R. Thurston. Cavalcade of Ghosts. First Edition. 1956. Book and dust jacket are both in good condition. Pages (mostly endpapers) show discoloration. Jacket shows fraying a 1 x ½-tear to the upper front cover that has been repaired with masking tape, but due to pattern of jacket design, this is not as noticeable as it would otherwise be.
This chilling book, published in England, is divided into two sections. The first half covers stories of the supernatural based purportedly true, and the second half retells the best fictional ghost lore. One such “story” is the curse of the mummy that was exhumed from a crypt in Egypt and transported to the British Museum. Thirteen people who handled the mummy’s case all met with death or disaster. A brave American then purchased it, but alas, he shipped it home via the doomed Titanic.
“Many tales of haunting seem to have originated from some agonizing tragedy. That is, from the intensity of concentrated thought. Is it not possible that this combined thought and violent emotion gets impressed upon the ether of space?”
--R. Thurston Hopkins
