Pratt, Fletcher. A Man and His Meals, The Fine Art of Eating. First Edition. 1947. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Co-written by Robeson Bailey, with drawings by Inga.
This book bills itself as a “cookbook without recipes,” and that is exactly what it is. The authors lay out the basic principles of cooking in an easy-to-follow, captivating manner. It tells the story of food, and it turns out, food is at least as interesting as any fictional character. There are chapters on meats, vegetables, deserts, etc. An excellent book—as relevant to the novice as to the gourmand.
“An American family, it has frequently been said, throws away enough food in a day to feed a French family for a week.”
