Illustrated Edition of Patchwork Child, Signed by Brooke Astor
[Signed] Astor, Brooke. Patchwork Child. Illustrated Edition. 1993. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Signed “Brooke Astor” in blue ink on the half title page.
As the daughter of a naval officer, Mrs. Astor spent her youth in (then) Imperial China, Hawaii, Panama, and Washington, D.C. Moreover, she was an only child. Both factors contributed to a unique upbringing, which fostered a passion for reading and an inquisitive mind. As a mere child, she found herself contemplating Buddhism with monks in the Temple of One Hundred Courtyards on the outskirts of Peking. This memoir of those early years is a lovely and not-illogical prologue to what became an even more extraordinary adulthood. Includes color and b & w illustration throughout.
“I am forever grateful to my parents. They were not at all alike in character, but they loved each other and they loved me.”
--Brooke Astor
