Malone, Dumas, Six Volume Biography of Thomas Jefferson. 9 linear inches on the shelf (maximum height: 9 inches; max depth: 6 inches). Books and dust jackets are in very good condition—a few jackets show minor edge tears and light fraying: a gorgeous set.
As the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Professor of History at the University of Virginia, Dumas Malone could practically see Monticello from its Charlottesville campus. As such, how natural for him to write the most in-depth biography of Jefferson ever attempted. It was a monumental task that began in 1948 and was not completed until 1981. The result is surprisingly readable (given the meticulous detail), and it won Dumas the Pulitzer Prize in 1975.
Jefferson the Virginian. Later Printing. 1948.
Jefferson and the Rights of Man. Later Printing. 1951.
Jefferson and the Ordeal of Liberty. Seventh Printing. 1962.
