John F. Kennedy famously accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris, but it was her official courtier Oleg Cassini who dressed her for the occasion. This book of photographs, fashion sketches, and text recalls their remarkable collaboration. Cassini also was a costume designer for films. In fact, one of the last projects prior to his death was for The Sentinel in which he designed the costumes for Kim Basinger. Her role in the film: First Lady of the United States, bringing Cassini’s career full circle and making this a unique association copy.
“One can never underestimate the importance of good shoulders. Good shoulders and a long waist are a great asset when it comes to wearing clothes, and Jackie had both. She was the perfect model for very simple lines—a minimalist par excellence.”
