Jacket and title page illustrations by James Wyeth. This copy is from the library of Elaine Kaufman, proprietor of the legendary Elaine’s. It is inscribed, “Merry Christmas—Elaine, xxoo Phyllis + Jamie.” To the right of the inscription is an original pen & ink drawing of Santa Claus by the Wyeths.
The traditional Santa Claus the Wyeths have drawn in this copy to their friend Elaine is very much keeping with the theme of this book by society bandleader Peter Duchin. He presents the lyrics and music for sixty-one Christmas Carols. Interspersed are images taken from Yuletide paintings, lithographs, early greeting cards, etc.
