Cobb, Irvin S. “Here Comes the Bride” And So Forth. Reprint Edition (Grosset & Dunlap). 1925. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—there is a small stain on pages 44-45.
This book of seventeen essays spans cradle to grave, with particular attention paid to weddings. “Here Comes the Bride,” the first chapter, meanders into various asides, but the inspiration was a society wedding then in the news. Other topics include Christmas, travel, bores, public dinners, etc. The author was an early 20th Century humorist, a contributor to the Saturday Evening Post, The Country Gentleman, and Hamptons Magazine. Uncommon in dust jacket, particularly as well preserved as this one.
“It is a curious phase of human nature that at a funeral most of us are ready on any excuse to laugh, but at a wedding … we want to cry.”
