Mason, Louise. After the Honeymoon, One Hundred Hints on Husbandry. First Edition. 1922. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition.
This antique book is definitely from a different era—one in which “obey” reigned supreme as the most important component of a bride’s marriage vow. The caveat here is that obey can mean many things, and this books offers advice on how a bride might cleverly manage her spouse without running afoul of her vows. The tone is tongue-in-cheek, but the book is not unsympathetic to human nature and if distilled to its essence, applies to even the most modern of marriages.
“What a man condones as merely ‘human nature’ in himself, he usually condemns as inexcusable folly in his wife.”
--Louise Mason
