[Signed Presentation] Etting, Gloria Braggiotti. By the Way. First Edition. 1993. Softcover in very good condition—there is a mild crease to the lower front cover. Book is warmly inscribed on the title page, “To Ashton [Hawkins] who fascinates me, Love, Gloria.” Foreword by Anne d’Harnoncourt. Introduction by Martha Madigan.
The artistically inclined Gloria Braggiotti Etting might have never been a household name, but that does not mean household names were unfamiliar with her. She grew up in Boston with the Cushing sisters and remained their lifelong friend. She and her husband the artist Emlen Etting gave magnificent parties in their Rittenhouse Square townhouse, but they were just as likely to be found abroad interacting with a fascinating assortment of literary, artistic, and social personalities. This book of photographs includes candid snapshot of many in their glittering set, including Babe Paley, Jacqueline Onassis, Douglas Cooper, Alexander Calder, and Truman Capote. The recipient of this copy was formerly the general counsel for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a friend of both Ettings.
“Gloria Braggiotti Etting gracefully glides through her world with elegance, spontaneity, refined wit, an eye for the unexpected, and of course, her camera.”
