Ever wonder what it would be like to mash up reality television and a literary review: “The Real Housewives of the New Yorker,” say? This book of raucous disputes between the great American authors has much the same drama, but on an elevated literary plane. Chapters include “Ernest Hemingway vs. Gertrude Stein,” and “Lillian Hellman vs. Mary McCarthy.” What makes this copy so unique, however, is that it is signed to Gore Vidal whose feud with Truman Capote is arguably the most bitter of those depicted in the book (and certainly the most star-studded).
“Of course, I’m always sad about Gore. Very sad that he has to breathe every day.”
