[Ex Libris Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis] Herr, Major General John K. The Story of the U.S. Cavalry, 1775-1942. First Edition, First Printing. 1953. Book is in very good minus condition; dust jacket is in good plus condition. This book is from the library of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, with her estate’s bookplate attached to the flyleaf.
It is well established that Jacqueline Onassis was an admirer of history, but even so, one might not expect to find a book on the American West in her library. Her gaze was generally in the opposite direction. Saint-Simon and Pompadour were more her taste. Perhaps the book came to her via the collection of her late husband, the President. On the other hand, the b & w plates are rather marvelous. Either way, a part of history.
