[Ex Libris Gore Vidal with His Bookstamp] Rense, Paige. Architectural Digest, Celebrity Interiors. First Edition. 1977. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows minor warping to the front cover. Book is stamped “From the library of GORE VIDAL” on the page preceding the half title page.
This excellent compendium of the most interesting celebrity homes featured in Architectural Digest features an eclectic mix of boldfaced names, including Lee Radziwill, Yves Laurent, and Diana Vreeland. What makes this copy unique is that it belonged to one of those profiled in the book—Gore Vidal. An invitation to stay at his Italian villa La Rondinaia, perched one thousand feet above the Adriatic Sea, was one of the most coveted invitations of the late 20th Century. Tennessee Williams, Paul Newman, Andy Warhol, Rudolph Nureyev, Mick and Bianca Jagger, and Hillary Clinton were among its guests.
“Reading the perceptive commentary of Truman Capote and Gore Vidal prompts a certain wonderment about their personal surroundings.”
