Writers have the ability express themselves through their work, but alas, literature is a different art form than journalism. This book offers unique portraits of fourteen authors, that, thanks to the extemporaneous nature of the interview process, diverge from that which can be gleaned from their bodies of work. There is a chapter on Gore Vidal, to whom this copy belonged. It is one of the best in the book. Vidal was a man of a million quips and ideas and was gifted with the ability to express himself eloquently. He was a fabulous interview, and that comes across in this book. There are also chapters on Toni Morrison, Susan Sontag, Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, William Burroughs, and others.
“I have nothing in common with Myra Breckinridge except total admiration. She is magnificent …”
