[Ex Libris Gore Vidal] Heymann, C. David. A Woman Named Jackie. First English Edition. 1989. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows minor edgewear. Book is stamped “From the library of GORE VIDAL” on the flyleaf.

This six-hundred-plus page biography was published in the latter years of its subject’s life. It remains the lengthiest, giving it ample space to cover the oblique manner by which Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s trajectory intersected with that of Gore Vidal, to whom this copy belonged. At different times, both were the brainy stepchild of the Hugh D. Auchincloss, whom they regarded as comedic philistine. Each spent his or her formative teen years at Auchincloss’s grand Washington D.C. estate, Merrywood. They never met until adulthood, but eventually bonded, and a friendship blossomed until derailed by a drunken night at the White House. The circumstances of that evening became even more notorious when embellished by Truman Capote, prompting Vidal to sue him for libel.

“Some day, maybe everything about me will be known, but not with my cooperation.”

--Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
