[Signed to Kim Basinger] Hedren, Tippi. The Cats of Shambala, The Extraordinary Story of an Actress’s Life with the Big Cats. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Second Printing. 1989. Book is inscribed, “For Kim, Come to Shambala one day! Tippi Hedren, September 1989.” Kim Basinger’s ownership signature is above the inscription.
Tippi Hedren might have begun her career with Alfred Hitchock’s The Birds, but she devoted her life to cats—the one hundred or so orphaned lions, tigers, and cheetahs that are housed at Shambala, her ranch forty miles north of Los Angeles. Hedren is the mother of the actress Melanie Griffin who was literally raised among the cats, with one even sharing her bed. This copy is inscribed to the actress Kim Bassinger, a fellow Hollywood animal rights enthusiast. Includes many pages of photos.
“Lions and tigers—in fact, all big cats—must be taught at the earliest possible age that they have to be careful with humans, that human skin is like tissue paper …”
