One Special Summer, Signed by Lee Radziwill
[Signed by Lee Radziwill] Bouvier, Jacqueline and Lee. One Special Summer. Second Edition. 2005. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. It is inscribed on the title page, “To Elizabeth ***, From Lee Radziwill.”
In the summer of 1951, the young Bouvier sisters were permitted to travel in Europe free of adult supervision. To thank their mother and step-father for the trip, they wrote and illustrated this amusing account of their adventures aboard the Queen Elizabeth and in London, Paris, Venice, Rome, and Florence. It sat in an attic until published in 1974, by which time the sisters were Princess Radziwill and Mrs. Aristotle Onassis. They had not only traveled in Europe but had homes there—how extraordinary from the perspective of their early 1950s selves. The illustrations and text are charming—a paradox of sophistication and innocence.
“Oh, we’re not at all what you think we are.”
