[Signed] Phillips, Julia. You’ll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again. Fourth Printing. 1991. Book is in good plus condition; dust jacket is in very good condition—book’s spine has slightly buckled. Book is warmly inscribed, “Lucy, Thanks for a great lunch! Love, Julia Phillips.”
Julia Phillips was the first female producer to win the Academy Award (for The Sting), and her description of the Awards show that night is covered in harrowing and hilarious detail in the prelude to this book. Her career had derailed by the time she wrote this five hundred-page plus book about her experiences (and misadventures) in Hollywood. Alas, her candor did indeed affect her ability to each lunch in Hollywood. Though frank as to others (Goldie Hawn, Warren Beatty), she is brutally honest about herself, which is what made it one of the classic books about life in Hollywood and how surreal it sometimes becomes.
“You can’t imagine what a trip it is for a nice Jewish girl from Great Neck to win an Academy Award and meet Elizabeth Taylor all in the same night.”
--Julia Phillips, Academy Awards Acceptance Speech
