Travels with Cole Porter, Ex Libris Gore Vidal
[Ex Libris Gore Vidal] Howard, Jean. Travels with Cole Porter. First Edition. 1991. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows mild fraying to the upper spine. Book is stamped “From the library of GORE VIDAL” on the dedication page. Introduction by George Eels.
Jean Howard was a Hollywood glamour girl and the wife of one of the its most important agents, Charlie Feldman. She was also an avid amateur photographer who had ready access to the people everyone wanted to see photographed. As result, she was eventually able to go professional, with her work appearing in Life and other magazines. This coffee table book recalls two international voyages she took with her great friends Cole and Linda Porter in the mid-fifties. Interspersed with the snapshots of Rome, Greece, Sicily, Egypt, Syria, etc. are Howard’s diary entries and recollections of her dear friends, Cole and Linda Porter.
“I think Cole was so taken with Jean [Howard] because in many ways she reminded him of a young Linda. She imparted a hit of mystery, an air of distinction—and she was great fun.”
--George Eels
