[Association Copy, Ex Libris Elizabeth Taylor] Cohn, Art. The Nine Lives of Michael Todd. First Edition. 1958. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. This copy of a book about Elizabeth Taylor’s deceased husband was from the glamorous movie star’s personal library. Laid in is an item description and tag from “The Lifestyle of Elizabeth Taylor” sale held at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California.
It would have been impossible for this book to be signed to Elizabeth Taylor, the widow of Mike Todd. Art Cohn, the book’s author, was aboard Mike Todd’s plane, The Liz, when it crashed, killing everyone aboard. Taylor was to have been on the flight as well, but due to illness, had canceled. All but two chapters of this book had been written, and they were completed using Cohn’s extensive notes. Prior to Richard Burton, Taylor considered Mike Todd to be the love of her life, and it is anyone’s guess as to what would have happened to their marriage had he lived. Taylormakes frequent appearances in the book.
“What we’ve got is so great and so right it scares me. I’m afraid I’m dreaming and all of a sudden I’m going to wake up. We’ve got the right chemistry.”
--Mike Todd, on Elizabeth Taylor
