Louella Parsons, The Gay Illiterate
Parsons, Louella. The Gay Illiterate. Reprint Edition. 1944. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows minor chipping and slight edge tears. Louella Parsons was one of the two gossip columnists who reigned supreme over Hollywood during its Golden Age, making and ruining careers as she saw fit. Friend to William Randolph Hearst, she wrote the gossip column for his newspaper syndicate. She relates many fun anecdotes and confesses to every sin but murder to obtain and/or keep the lid on a scoop.
“Sex appeal is a far more common commodity in Hollywood than love. Real love always comes with a high price-mark, sometimes higher than the glamour boys and girls are willing to pay.”
