Lee Radziwill, Lee
Radziwill, Lee. Lee. First Edition. 2015. Introduction by Richard David Story. Foreword by Peter Beard. Book is in very good condition (no jacket—as issued).
For someone as adventurous and stylish as Lee Radziwill, it must have been difficult serving as de facto lady-in-waiting to her older sister with whom she shared so much in common, except stardom. Yet, in this book, she does so with grace. This was the second of two scrapbook-style memoirs, both of which emphasized photographs and mementos in lieu of text. The book is upbeat and kind. Whatever hint of gossip it contains (as with the first) must be read between the lines. There are amusing stories, however, which are interspersed with personal photographs of very public lives. Luminaries such as Truman Capote, Peter Beard, Aristotle Onassis, Rudolf Nureyev, Cecil Beaton, and Andy Warhol are interspersed with family members (Jackie, her children, her parents, the Kennedys, et al.).
“Queen Elizabeth II held a private dinner on the occasion of the president’s unofficial visit to London. We took a tour through the art gallery, and Prince Phillip said to me, ‘You’re just like me—you have to walk three steps behind.’”
