Book is signed “Patrick McMullan” on the half-title page. The laid in print, “Backstage at the Oscar de la Renta show, September 2002,” is also signed by him. Photography by Patrick McMullan with an Introduction by Fern Mallis, and a Foreword by Katie Couric.
As a fashion hub, New York first became a serious rival to Paris in the 1970s, but it wasn’t until 1990s, when the New York fashion shows were centralized to the Bryant Park tents, that New York fashion first entered the stratosphere. Man-about-town photographer Patrick McMullan was there from the beginning, documenting every aspect of the shows—the models, the designers, the fashion editors, and the society people and Hollywood celebrities in attendance. He collected hundreds of photographs from the shows into this massive, well-indexed book, which includes quotes from attendees and participants. It is not only an important social document, but a lot of fun. This limited edition, in a Coach-crafted slipcase, is uncommon. No other such copies appear to be for sale at this time.
