Forbidden Library, Pair
FORBIDDEN LIBRARY, PAIR. These are the catalogues for two related mid-1980s exhibitions at the Hobart & Maclean Gallery in London. They include reproductions of erotic art, featuring works by Jean Cocteau, Suzanne Ballivet, Christian Berard, Paul Avril, et al. Both are softcovers in very good minus condition.
Maclean, Jamie. Forbidden Images, An Exhibition of Eastern and Western Erotic Art. First Edition. 1985. This is the more rare of the two—it is the first copy NHL has been able to locate.
Webb, Peter (Intro.). The Forbidden Library, An Exhibition of Erotic Illustration. 1986. Filled with scandalous images (even for today). The organizers, not surprisingly, found that erotic literature thrived in times when public virtue was at its most stringent. Quite amusing.
