Cain, James M. The Postman Always Rings Twice. Movie Tie-in Edition. Undated but circa 1946. Book is very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—previous owner bookplate and tiny chip to spine.
James M. Cain concluded, “There’s more violence in Hamlet than in all my books. I write love stories, and about the wish that terrifies.” It was that “wish that terrifies” that made his novels so easily adaptable to Film Noir. In addition to Postman, he wrote the books upon which Double Indemnity and Mildred Pierce were based. Though Postman was published first, due to its explicit content, it was adapted for the screen last, green-lit only after the box office success of the other two.

“Whenever I can make it, I’m out there with Cora, with the sky above us, and the water around us, talking about how happy we are going to be, and how its’ going to last forever.”
