Lord Kinross. Europa Minor, Journeys in Coastal Turkey. First Edition. 1956. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows minor fraying.
Patrick Balfour (Lord Kinross) was an Englishmen who became enthralled by Turkey and wrote many books on the subject, including a much-praised biography on Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. This book is a travelogue, based upon journeys Lord Kinross made to the Turkish Riviera and other coastal regions between 1947 and 1954. The title, Europa Minor, derives from his observation of how Westernized this section of Asia Minor had become.
“The grandeur of the past still survives along the Bosporus in ample houses, once the homes of Ottoman pashas and merchants; … palaces built with an elegant European restraint but with a discreet touch of oriental fantasy.”
--Lord Kinross
